across from、next to、behind 的区别：用 VOA Lesson 6 学会英语方位表达

“在……旁边”“在……后面”“在……对面”看似简单，但一到真实问路就容易混。VOA Let's Learn English Level 1 的 Lesson 6《Where Is the Gym?》把这三个表达放进同一个情景：Anna 在新公寓大楼找健身房，邻居 Pete 不断给她指路，Anna 却先后走到了收发室、休息室、停车库和屋顶。

这课最适合练三个方位短语：across from、next to、behind。

先会问：Where is the gym?

问一个单数地点在哪里，用：

Where is the gym?

回答时可以重复地点，也可以用 it 代替：

The gym is across from the lounge.

It is next to the mailroom.

这里的 gym 是单数，所以用 is，不能说 Where are the gym?

1. across from：在……正对面

Pete 第一次说：

The gym is across from the lounge.

across from 表示两个地点隔着走廊、街道或空间相对而立，可以理解为“正对面”。

The bank is across from the school. 银行在学校对面。
The gym is across from the lounge. 健身房在休息室对面。

它是固定搭配，后面直接接参照地点。不要说 across the lounge 来表达“在休息室对面”。

2. next to：紧挨着、在……旁边

Pete 还说：

It is next to the mailroom.

next to 表示距离很近、紧挨着。它不一定是“左边”或“右边”，重点是两个地点相邻。

The coffee shop is next to the library. 咖啡店在图书馆旁边。
The gym is next to the mailroom. 健身房在收发室旁边。

说位置时，next 后面必须有 to。The gym is next the mailroom 是错误的。

3. behind：在……后面

Anna 走错几次后，Pete 补充：

It is behind the lobby.

behind 表示在某个参照物的后方。

The parking garage is behind the building. 停车库在大楼后面。
The gym is behind the lobby. 健身房在大堂后面。

behind 后面同样要接参照地点或物品。

Anna 为什么一直找错？

这个故事不只是背方位词。Anna 听到 across from the lounge 后，没有完全听清参照物；她后来问：

The gym is across from ... what?

这是本课很好的学习策略：听不清时，不要假装懂。先重复已经听懂的部分，再用 what? 请求对方补充。

在日常生活中你也可以说：

The library is next to ... what?

说这类澄清问句时，在 what 前停一下，并把语调上扬。

先看你周围的三个地点或物品，再开口说：

Where is the ...?
It is next to ...
It is across from ...
It is behind ...

例如：

Where is the coffee shop?

It is next to the library. It is across from the park.

每次只换一个地点和一个方位短语。能不看中文说出来，就说明你真正会用了。
